Manhood is something that deep down, every boy yearns for. We feel like there is this caged up beast locked inside that society has forced us to keep locked away deep in our souls. It doesn’t feel right to keep it locked away, but that is the social norm so we abide by it. We are to busy trying to conform to this un-natural unisex being that our culture has placed before us as the “ideal” and “normal” way of life. Well I believe it’s time to look straight in the eyes of the “political correctness” movement and unleash that “beast” within. I long for that initiation into manhood, something that for years now has been diluted into just some simple word, having no true meaning.

Buddy and I are heading to the Grand Divide Trail in British Columbia this June in an effort to become closer with the Lord and take a defining step from boyhood into manhood. I look at it like a rite of passage, similiar to the Aztecs whose boys made battle armor from the beasts they killed, or how some African tribes had their boys kill lions to be initiated into their society as men. I wanted to do something that would test me to see if I had what it takes, to force me to step to the plate and man up. This is what I decided to do………..

On June 7th, 2007 I'll be jumping in my 92 four cylindar Acura and heading to America's neighbor to the north, Canada. The southern Canadian Rockies in the Alberta province to be exact.

After arriving there, I plan to take a couple weeks (hopefully 3 but really just as long as I can survive on my supplies)to spend outdoors backpacking, living off the land as much as possible, reading the Bible, praying, and seeing if I truly have what it takes. What better place to draw closer to the Lord and test my limits than in the wild, untouched nature of the Canadian Rockies? There will be dangers such as wild animals, hunger, bad weather, etc, but then again an easy, safe camping trip isn’t exactly what I was looking for.

I really hope that this trip will inspire others to get out there, live their dreams, and do something that requires them to be the men they were made to be. We as a society are in need of genuine Christian men, and I pray that this can be a good starting point.

As I am out there, I'm going to be taking countless pictures, recording what I can, and writting in a journal as much as possible. I would really like to compile my entries and pictures into a book one day to share with people what I faced, how I got through it, and what I learned, which will be alot since backpacking is a totally new sport to me.
